To combat climate change, businesses can pledge or commit towards specific goals and actions. To ensure that those commitments are a genuine engagement and not simply a box-ticking exercise, clear targets and reporting frameworks are put in place by numerous initiatives.
The Climate Smart Network is proud to have joined forces with the SME Climate Hub to facilitate commitment and action from its business network.
The SME Climate Hub is an initiative of the We Mean Business Coalition, the Exponential Roadmap Initiative, and the United Nations Race to Zero campaign. In collaboration with Normative and the Net Zero team at Oxford University, the SME Climate Hub provides tools and resources to enable SMEs to make a climate commitment, take action and measure their progress towards emissions reductions. Together with a number of organizations, the SME Climate Hub has partnered with the Race to Zero, the UN-backed global campaign which rallies non-state actors – including companies, cities, regions, financial and educational institutions – to take rigorous and immediate action to halve global emissions by 2030 and deliver a healthier, fairer zero carbon world. The SME Climate Commitment is the official pathway for small and medium sized businesses to join the United Nations’ Race to Zero campaign, and businesses which commit to the SME Climate Hub will be globally recognized by the campaign.
Small businesses can commit to take climate action through initiatives like the SME Climate Hub which are connected to the umbrella campaign Race to Zero, hosted by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC’s) High-level Climate Champions. These initiatives provide the support and guidance to members on how to commit to credible climate targets and take meaningful action against these goals.
The Climate Smart Network’s mission is to bring global initiatives under one roof, and feature their beneficiaries under a United Nations platform, to build bridges between initiatives and increase visibility of committed businesses.
